Ex-Detroit Mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick Looks for $6K a Month Restitution Break

March 27, 2009

kwame-kilpatrick.6rest.jpgEx-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is looking for a break on his restitution bill, saying he has only $6 left a month to meet the $6,000, court-ordered obligation.

Kilpatrick’s lawyers filed a motion this week in Wayne County Circuit Court seeking relief from the five-year payment schedule required by Judge David Groner. The documents show Kilpatrick is earning at least $10,000 a month as a salesman in Texas, but after other expenses he has only $6 for restitution payments.
Kilpatrick spent 99 days in jail after entering pleas in two criminal cases. He and a top aide were charged with lying on the stand during a police whistle-blowers’ trial. The case turned in part on thousands of sexually explicit text messages the two exchanged.
